Flood alerts in place as heavy rain lashes parts of England

Roads have been transformed into "rivers" in some areas of Lincolnshire and the Humber - but the rain is set to ease.

Summer was put firmly on hold for many today, as heavy rain caused flooding in parts of England.
Towns and villages in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire have been worst affected, with metre-deep standing water in places.
Fire and rescue services said they had responded to emergency calls overnight and pictures of cars stranded on drenched roads were posted on social media.
Melanie Onn, the Labour MP for Great Grimsby, shared photos of streets transformed into a "river", saying some needed shutting down because they were so waterlogged.

Yellow weather warnings are still in place for the East Midlands, London, East Anglia, South West and South East England.
The Met Office warning said: "A slowly southward-moving weather system will give 15-30 mm of rain quite widely across the area, with possibly as much as 60-80 mm in places through the whole day.
"Locally, 20-30 mm could fall within an hour."
The Environment Agency has also put out 15 amber "be prepared" flood alerts for parts of the Home Counties, Lincolnshire and the Humber.
However, the Met Office said the wet weather should clear up by the end of the day, aside from the odd shower in Kent.
"The heaviest of the rain should gradually become confined to the extreme southeast of the UK later in the day," a spokesperson said.
However, it wasn't a washout for everyone on Wednesday.
Northern England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland experienced a better day, with some cloud and temperatures up to three degrees higher than London.

Saudi Arabia denies facilitating what the UN calls an “entirely man-made catastrophe” in Yemen, which has killed over 1,000. The investment is the firm's biggest in the UK for more than a decade and is welcomed as a vote of confidence in the economy. Engine maker Rolls-Royce is investing £150m in UK aerospace facilities in a move that will safeguard more than 7,000 jobs. It is the Derby-based group's biggest single investment in the UK for more than a decade. The announcement was welcomed by the Government amid fears that some companies are putting off decisions due to Brexit uncertainty. Rolls-Royce said it was investing over the next few years in new and existing facilities across the East Midlands. It is creating a new facility in Derby for testing large aero engines, resulting in up to 200 jobs, while plans to close a precision machining facility in the town have been scrapped, saving 150 jobs that had previously been at risk.
