The Everton star, whose wife is pregnant with their fourth child, is released on bail after being arrested at 2am in a VW Beetle. Former England captain Wayne Rooney has been charged with drink driving. The Everton striker, 31, was stopped by police while driving a black VW Beetle along Altrincham Road in Wilmslow, Cheshire, at 2am on Friday. Rooney has been released on bail and is due to appear at Stockport Magistrates' Court on 18 September - the day after his former club Manchester United take on The Toffees at Old Trafford. West Ham striker Andy Carroll has given evidence after a gun-wielding motorcyclist tried to rob him of his watch at traffic lights last year. The Premier League footballer was returning home from his club's training ground when he was chased by two motorcycles, Basildon Crown Court heard. Jack O'Brien, 22, denies attempting to rob the 28-year-old on 2 November 2016. Carroll's 999 call was played to the jury, in which he was heard saying: "There's two motorbikes, one's behind me pulling out a gun, I don't know what to do." Beeping is heard in the background, and Carroll tells the call handler: "Oh s***, I've hit loads of cars, I don't know what to do, he's just hit my car." The estranged wife of former Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs has been granted a divorce at London's Family Court. Stacey Cooke married Giggs in September 2007 and the couple have two children. Her lawyer, James Brown, said she wished to finalise the divorce with as little attention on proceedings as possible. "Mrs Giggs' primary focus has always been and will continue to be the welfare of her family," he said. "Her only interest is bringing these events to as swift and amicable a conclusion as possible, so that she and her family can move on." The club says there is no chance of Abdelhak Nouri's crucial brain functions recovering following his collapse in Austria. Ajax midfielder Abdelhak Nouri has suffered "serious and permanent brain damage" after collapsing during a pre-season friendly, the club has said. The 20-year-old Amsterdam-born player received emergency treatment on the pitch during the match against Werder Bremen on Saturday. He was airlifted to a hospital in Innsbruck, Austria, where he was put into an induced coma. The club said a brain scan and other neurological tests had "not detected any anomalies" but that his brain function could not be accurately tested while he was being kept asleep. The Oyston family are accused of "improperly" extracting millions of pounds for the football club. The owners of Blackpool FC are accused of using the football club as their "family's personal cash machine" in a court case that could prove to be one of the most expensive in British footballing history. At the High Court Andrew Green QC alleged the Oyston family had "improperly" taken millions from club funds and used the money for their own benefit. He accused Owen and Karl Oyston, majority owner and chairman of the Lancashire club respectively, of adopting a "deliberate strategy" to take money out of the club, in a way that "its nominated directors could do nothing to stop". Qatar has been engulfed by a diplomatic crisis, with Saudi Arabia and four other Arab countries severing their ties with the energy-rich nation. Tiote, who played seven seasons for Newcastle, was taken to hospital but died after emergency treatment. Former Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote has died at the age of 30 after collapsing during a training session in China. Ivory Coast international Tiote moved to China in February to play for second division side Beijing Enterprises and he was training with his club when he collapsed. He was taken to hospital but it has now been confirmed that he passed away after emergency treatment. Tiote arrived at Newcastle in 2010 from FC Twente and played seven seasons for the club, the first six of those in the Premier League. But Tiote would only make one Championship appearance in his seventh season at St James' Park, and he made the move to China last year. Barclays to surrender control of Africa unit with £1.6bn sale

Barclays gets regulatory approval to offload a big chunk of the division which operates in Ghana, Kenya and other African markets. Barclays has been given regulatory approval for the sale of its remaining stake in its Barclays Africa Group, according to a unit of the business. South Africa's finance minister has approved the deal, ABSA Bank said, and this will allow Barclays to begin selling its remaining 50% stake in Barclays Africa Group (BAGL). The move will form part of its chief executive's efforts to refocus the British lender on higher-growth areas. ABSA Bank, based in Johannesburg, is the main business inside Barclays Africa Group. Barclays Bank Egypt and Barclays Bank of Zimbabwe, which sit outside Barclays Africa Group, will also be sold.
