Donald Trump signs executive order on cybersecurity
The move follows serious data breaches and claims that Russian hackers interfered with the US presidential election.

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to increase the White House's role in the nation's cybersecurity.
The order assigns responsibility for protecting federal networks and critical infrastructure to the executive branch of government.
The executive order declares that the heads of executive departments and agencies are to be held accountable for managing the cybersecurity risk to their enterprises.
After meeting intelligence chiefs in January, the incoming president stated he would appoint a team to come up with a plan on cybersecurity within 90 days of taking office, although this was subsequently postponed.
Now, 111 days after the inauguration, President Trump has stated that "the executive branch has for too long accepted antiquated and difficult-to-defend IT".
"Effective immediately, it is the policy of the executive branch to build and maintain a modern, secure, and more resilient executive branch IT architecture," the executive order says.

The executive order refers specifically to cybersecurity as protecting IT and data from disruption and unauthorised access.
The US has experienced a number of serious cybersecurity incidents in recent years.
The most significant data breach was of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in which more than 21 million federal government staff's records were stolen.
Among the stolen documents held by OPM were copies of a document known as Standard Form 86, a 127-page questionnaire filled out by staff seeking security clearance.
While Chinese hackers were believed to be responsible for the data breach at OPM, President Trump's relationship with Russia and the alleged involvement of Russian hackers in the presidential election has continued to spark controversy.
The president has admitted that "this Russia thing" was on his mind when he decide
